What sets the rate
Four things decide most of the price difference between two Luxor stays:
- The season. Demand is highest in the cool months, roughly December to February, with Christmas, New Year and school holidays the busiest weeks. It is lowest in the hot months, June to September, when many hotels lower rates. The shoulder months either side (October, November, March and April) usually sit between the two. See Best time to visit Luxor and the monthly weather guide.
- The type of property. Luxor ranges from family-run guesthouses and small West Bank houses to large East Bank resorts with gardens, pools and spas. Floating hotels (Nile cruise ships) are priced as packages, usually with meals and guided visits, and should not be compared with a hotel room night for night.
- The view and position. Rooms facing the Nile and properties on the Corniche or with river frontage usually cost more than garden-view or street-side rooms in the same building. On the West Bank, views of the Theban mountain and of the surrounding farmland, with its sugar cane, corn and banana fields, are part of what many properties offer, so check which way your room faces before you compare prices.
- Length and timing of booking. Flexible rates with free cancellation can cost more than non-refundable ones. Very short notice in peak weeks narrows the choice.
East Bank and West Bank
Neither bank is simply the cheaper one. Both have simple guesthouses and higher-end properties. In general:
- The East Bank has more large hotels and resorts, a wider spread of standards and more choice in every price band.
- The West Bank has more small guesthouses and boutique houses, and a few upmarket properties set in gardens and fields.
Choose the bank for the trip you want first, using Where to stay in Luxor, then compare rates within it.
What a quote may not include
Before comparing two rates, check what each one covers:
- Service charge and VAT. Egyptian hotels commonly apply a service charge (often 12%) and VAT (14%), and some add a small city tax. Some quotes include these, others add them at checkout. Read the rate terms or ask the hotel whether the price is final.
- Breakfast and meals. Room only, bed and breakfast, half board and all inclusive are all common in Luxor, especially at resorts.
- Transfers. Airport or station pickup is sometimes included, often an extra.
- The crossing. A West Bank hotel may include a boat or car to the East Bank, or may leave it to you.
- Tours and activities. Most hotels and guesthouses can arrange tours and activities, such as balloon flights, guided visits and day trips. These are priced separately from the room, so check exactly what each tour includes before you book: transport, guide, monument tickets and meals are not always covered. See What tickets to buy in advance in Luxor.
Standards to expect
Star ratings in Egypt are set nationally but vary between properties of the same grade. Recent guest reviews, the photos of the actual room type and the listed facilities (air conditioning, hot water, lift, pool) tell you more than the star count. In summer, check that the room has working air conditioning and that the pool is open.
How to compare quotes like for like
- Fix the dates and the number of guests.
- Compare the same board basis (for example, bed and breakfast against bed and breakfast).
- Check whether taxes and service are included in each figure.
- Check cancellation terms.
- Add any transfer or crossing the hotel does not include.
Live rates for each area are on the East Bank hotels and West Bank hotels and guesthouses pages.
One snapshot: supplier rates for an early-September night
These are supplier "from" rates per room per night, in US dollars, for the 74 Luxor hotels that had a rate in this site's hotel data when it was generated in September 2026. Each rate was saved with the search it came from: one night, checking in on a Monday in early September 2026, for 2 adults in 1 room. The date the search itself ran is not recorded. A single night's rates are not a seasonal average and not a quote, so they say nothing about other months: check the live price for your own dates. Early September is low season, so expect higher rates from December to February.

Questions
When is Luxor cheapest for hotels?+
Usually in the summer months, June to September, when demand drops with the heat. Many hotels lower rates then.
Are taxes included in the price shown?+
It depends on the hotel and the booking channel. Many Egyptian quotes add a service charge and VAT on top of the room rate, so check the terms before you compare.
Is the West Bank cheaper than the East Bank?+
Not as a rule. Both banks have simple guesthouses and higher-end properties. Compare within the area that suits your trip.
Are Nile cruises cheaper than hotels?+
They are priced differently. A cruise fare usually bundles cabin, meals and guided visits over several nights, so compare it with the total cost of a hotel stay plus meals and tours.
